7 Quick Tips to Increase the Speed of Your Android Smartphone

In the vast world of smartphones users, most of us are probably Android users or let’s assume so for the convenience of everyone here. So, if you’re an android user, you probably have been through a phase where your phone became frustratingly slow and daily usage was a nightmare for you. Wait; did you say it still hasn’t left you alone? You’ve already invested a lot of money in that high-end phone of yours and cannot afford a new one? You want to know how you can speed up your old android phone to make it work like a new one? If you said yes for any of those questions, then this is the perfect place for you to be right now!

I will take you through a stepwise process on how to fasten up the UI of your phone. It will work for most phones and things will be automatically easier if you’re a Samsung user. So, here we go then…

Step 1: Reducing Animations

Trust me guys, you don’t need really need animations on your phone. I mean, it’s barely noticeable and it’s not really worth the pain of having a slow phone! So, all you need to do is-

  • Go into Settings -> Developer Options -> Window Animation Scale and set it to 0.5x. Originally, it is set at 1.0x and you don’t really need that, as there isn’t much of difference between the two.

Now, chances are that you’re using a Samsung Galaxy phone and you can’t find the Developer Options. Well, you needn’t worry. All you have to do is  go into About Device and then tap on Build Number 7 times and you will find Developer Options above About Device.

  • Go into Settings -> Developer Options -> Transition Animation Scale and set that to 0.5x also. Do the same thing for Animator Duration Scale.
  • This would make your phone a little faster. You might be saying that there is no remarkable change but you will notice that the screen transitions are way faster than how they used to be.

Step 2: Removing Widgets

Yes! Widgets are one those elements on your android smartphone that hinder the smooth functioning of your smartphone. The widgets display live information. They keep fetching mobile data and feed it to you on your home screen. Yes, it is beneficial and you do need a few but you can definitely do away with a few. These widgets don’t only eat up battery but they also eat up resources. So, the best thing you could do is removing them if you don’t use them.

Step 3: Limiting Background Processes

Now, android smartphones are truly multitasking machines and thus they have a lot of processes running parallel to each other. This in turn slows down the phone! You can solve this problem by limiting the number of background processes that are running at any given point of time. You can do this by-

Go into Developer Options -> Limit Background Processes.

Here, you can set the no. of background processes to a minimum of 1 process. Now, it’s completely up to you as to how many processes you want running in the background! I would want you to note that you should mess around with this only if you know what you’re doing. It generally doesn’t cause any harm. But it’s advisable to not tamper much with this.

Step 4: Clearing Your R.A.M.

I assume that most of you know this already. What you do over here is you LONG TAP the HOME button and that leads you to the RAM MANAGER. Here, you can click on CLEAR MEMORY, which would then clear up a lot of your RAM’s memory in use. This would create a drastic change in the performance of your phone. In fact you should this at least twice a day, even if you’re using a new phone!

Step 5: Powering off

Now, this might sound extremely absurd but trust me on this, turning off your phone does indeed, help to increase the speed of your android smartphone. You needn’t do it very often. Switching off your phone and then restarting it at least once a week enhances your phone’s performance to a great degree. What this does is, it clears out the cache of your phone thus, making it work faster.

Step 6: Installing Custom Launchers

This technique is really helpful. Most of you guys might be thinking that installing custom launchers would use up more space on your phone and thus, would result In a slower phone but no! It is not that way. Try installing NOVA LAUNCHER  or C LAUNCHER or you could buy a paid launcher like TSF SHELL 3D or NEXT LAUNCHER. All of these launchers are kind of optimized to perform really well on your android device and especially if you’re using Samsung, which is running TOUCHWIZ, which is really heavy and is resource intensive! It eats up your RAM!

So, if you were to install one of these launchers on your phone, you would a huge difference in the performance of your phone. So, it’s really worth a shot!

Step 7: Rooting

I have a feeling that most of you have been anticipating this. Yes, rooting is the best way you can enhance the performance of your android performance! it’s a myth that rooting bricks your phone and you might land in recovery mode and end up with a broken phone. It is NOT like that! Rooting techniques have become very advanced and it no longer involves the strenuous use of odin3 and other similar software to root your device. A new Chinese based company going by the name of KINGO has come up with an application, which allows a one touch rooting technique on your phone, and this is EXTREMELY EASY. Comment below and let me know if you want me guide you through the process. Then I’ll write something on that to help you out.

So, what does rooting do to your phone? Well, it grants you access to all regions of your phone! You can do almost anything to your device. You can tweak it any imaginable way! So, how exactly would rooting fasten up your phone? Well, you could remove bloatwares from your phone that come built in your android device. Yes, you can finally remove HANGOUTS, FLIPBOARD,  and all those irritatingly large apps that served no purpose from the dawn of their invention! This would free up a LOT of space on your phone. You can use that to install a game or an utility app that you have been longing for ages!

To conclude it all, I would like to say that, no matter how much you try, no matter how many factory resets you make your phone go through, your android smartphone will ultimately become slow beyond repair. But yes, it will remain usable.
